The Bridge on the River Arade is a cable-stayed bridge with three spans. The central span has 256m and the two extremes 107m.
The bridge is in a maritime environment, exposed to chemicals chlorides, high aggression, which led to accelerated degradation of the structure. In general the bridge presented numerous cases of reinforcement corrosion and surface spalling of the concrete. The stay-cable had several strands with damaged ducts. The longer cables had obvious problems of vibration.
The design developed by Betar referred to the rehabilitation of the bridge, including the stay-cable system, following detailed inspection.
The rehabilitation works consisted mainly in repairing concrete under the EN1504 standard. Also, damaged strands were replaced and a new duct was placed, as well as vibration dampers in the longer cables.
