The highway Litoral Oeste Sub-Concession is located in the center of Portugal and covers 102km of road network linking the A1, 17 and A8 highways. It establishes itself as a touristic route with access to Batalha Monastery, Cristo’s Convent in Tomar, Nazaré’s beach and Fátima Sanctuary, among others.

BETAR has performed the detailed design of 13 viaducts, including different typologies of post-tensioned concrete structures, construction methods, extensions and spans.

The structural highlights are the Viaduct over Lis River, which is 814m long and has a 39.50m maximum span and was constructed with pre-cast and post-tensioned concrete “I” section beams, and the Viaduct over Lena River, which is 218m long with a 33m maximum span and was constructed with pre-cast and pre-tensioned concrete “U” section beams.

The pre-cast elements – such as beams, pier caps and pre-slabs - were placed with elevation equipment and, later on, the slab was concreted in situ. The pier's geometry varies from solid to voided cross sections and stand over footings or pile foundations.

In general, each viaduct is geminate. Each platform allows for 2 traffic lanes of 3.50m in each direction and large shoulders, which may be used in the future. There are technical sidewalks in the external side of the platforms. The longitudinal separator is of GBA type.
