New Railway Bridge over Secongene River at k61+900 of the Ressano Garcia Line

CFM (Employer) decide to implement an Improvement and Doubling Program at Ressano Garcia Railway, and withing this Program, it was necessary to execute a new Railway Bridge at k61+900.
Due to constraints directly related with the existing Bridge condition and the need to minimize impacts at Rail traffic during Works, it was decided to build a new Bridge, parallel to the existing one and 15m apart (at axis).
The new Bridge has a composite section (3 “I” metallic beams and a RC concrete slab with 10.8m width, built with pre-cast slabs to avoid the use of scaffolding/formwork at site) and accommodate two railway ballasted lines. In terms of spans modeling has 20m+28m+20m totaling a bridge length of 68.0m (between abutments axis).
Piers and Abutments are both reinforced concrete. The 2 Piers has each a section of 8.00x1.50m2 with round edges with 1.50m, having indirect foundations by using concrete piles.
The abutments were built on the backside of old structures, aiming to optimize its dimensions and take it easy the construction.
Within the Project it was also executed the new railway connection on a total length of 1.000m.
BETAR assumed the rule of Designer, Employer´s Technical Advisory and Site Supervisor.
