The rehabilitation of public space in Bairro de Lagarteiro is part of the Critical Neighborhood Initiative (IBC), a pilot program launched by the central administration for the regeneration of priority urban areas.
The proposed intervention aimed to create a pleasant and quality space for the residents of the Neighborhood, creating circulation routes, restructuring the road network and resizing the green areas.
It was necessary to build a street inside the neighborhood, articulating its North and South sectors, overcoming the altimetric unevenness and the scarcity of space available in the area.
The replacement of the entire Water Supply and drainage network was foreseen considering the existing networks on the streets adjacent to the Neighborhood.
To overcome the altimetric unevenness, several retaining walls were built, characterized by the texture of their surface achieved at the expense of the formwork used, specially made for this work.
The first intervention phase was awarded the IHRU Prize in 2012.
