The Horta Bypass – Phase 2, on Faial Island (Azores), for which Betar produced the detailed design, has a total length of 1,707 meters. This roadway serves as the primary link for traffic moving from the south (via the ER2-2ª from the airport) to the northern area of Horta City, connecting to the ER1-1ª route toward Almoxarife Beach. The project also includes a new access route to the Manuel Arriaga Secondary School, making the journey safer and faster.
The road project encompasses a total road network of 4,380 meters, featuring four roundabouts, one overpass, one underpass, road reconnections, and frontage roads. Geometric design parameters were based on a design speed of 60 km/h, with a strong emphasis on preserving existing homes and properties, as well as minimizing the use of agricultural land.
Betar’s multidisciplinary team carried out specialized work, covering geometric alignment, earthworks, drainage, paving, signage and safety, and ancillary works (retaining structures, frontage roads, fencing, and utility adjustments).
