Artistic Residency
Artistic Residency
The Artistic Residency organized by Betar at Quinta de São Lourenço, for the winners of the José Mendonça Award, ends today and the artists produced several works for a new art show.
Following the Young Artists Painting Exhibition that took place in the Grémio Literário, in Lisbon, during the month of July, Betar organized an Artistic Residency, at Quinta de São Lourenço, in Guarda, which began on September 17.
Laura Caetano, Guilherme Figueiredo, Hermes, Ana Malta and Francisco Venâncio, who were the winners of the José Mendonça Prize – 1st Betar Plastic Arts Prize, were invited to paint 3 canvases, over 12 days, in a magnificent space inserted in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, in the Mondego Valley. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, Hermes could not be present.
It was in a very pleasant setting, a large space, with natural lighting, and with all the necessary material at their disposal, that the artists were inspired to produce new works, which will integrate an exhibition in the Guarda Museum, between October 24 and November 9, 2023, with the support of the Municipality of Guarda.
During the residency, we invited the artists to describe the environment, through their photographs, that represented their look at the day-to-day life on the farm, and the Municipality of Guarda also gave us some images, captured on a visit to the space. The result can be seen in the Image Gallery.
