Following the progressive increase in the number of Works of Art affected by internal expansive reactions in concrete, which has raised growing concern about its consequences for structures, the seminar “Internal expansive reactions in concrete: actions aimed at sustainability” took place yesterday, December 3rd, at the LNEC Congress Center.
Organized by CRP – Portuguese Road and Rail Center, with the support of Betar, Infraestruturas de Portugal, Gabriel Couto, LNEC and Teixeira Duarte, the event featured a panel of expert speakers on concrete pathologies.
Managers of works of art, designers, contractors and researchers, from public and private entities, shared experiences and perspectives for defining more effective procedures in the prevention, diagnosis and mitigation of the effects of these reactions, promoting the sustainability and resilience of bridges.
Manuel Almeida, Master in Structural Engineering with more than 28 years of experience in the design of works of art, was Betar’s representative on the panel, where he addressed case studies of expansive reactions in the works of art on the A8 and A15 motorways.
